Science Fair Timeline and Due Dates 2007/2008

Assignment #1: Due Date is Tuesday 10/2

                        Science Fair book with 10 characteristics of a good experiment written in it.  Also 4 potential science fair topics to be shared in class.  This should                             be a question you are interested in studying this year.  Your question should be testable via a controlled experiment.  Use the internet for help.  There                         are many websites that can help you, try doing a google search for science fair topics.

Assignment #2: Due Date is Wednesday 10/3

                        Five potential science fair topics, written in science fair book, to be shared in class.  This should be a question you are interested in studying this year.                              Your question should be testable via a controlled experiment.  Use the internet for help.  There are many websites that can help you, try doing a                                 google search for science fair topics.  (Three Example Projects Handout)

Assignment #3: Due Date is Friday 10/5

                        Pick two ideas from assignment #2 and write research question to go along with them.  Use the “Writing a Researchable Question” handout when                             preparing your question. (Writing a Researchable Question Handout)

Assignment #4: Due Date is Thursday 10/11

                        Write a Hypothesis to go along with one of your questions from assignment #3. (Writing Hypothesis Handout)

Assignment #5:  Due Date is Friday 10/12

                        Science fair topic selection form (handout).  This will be approved or rejected and handed back on 10/15.  If your project is rejected you will need to                         meet with the teacher after school to discuss alternate possible topics.  This will be done 10/16 or 10/17.

Assignment #6:  Due Date is Friday 10/19

                        Have at least 5 references properly cited in your science fair book that relate to your project.  At least three of the 5 references must come from print                         sources.

Assignment #7:  Due Date is Friday 10/26

                        Submit all forms for your project.  Begin your experiment.

Assignment #8:  Due Date is Friday 11/2

                        Submit a rough draft of your science fair paper.  You must include the introduction section, the experimental design section (including materials list),                             and bibliography.

Assignment #9:  Due Date is Wednesday 11/14

                        Your Science Fair book will be collected to check up on your observations and data.

Assignment #10:  Due Date is Tuesday 11/20

                        Your Science Fair book will be collected to check up on your observations and data.

 Assignment #11:  Due Date is Tuesday 12/11

                        Your Science Fair book will be collected to check up on your observations and data.

Assignment #12:  Due Date is Thursday 12/20

                        Complete your experiment and write the final draft of your paper.  (introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion/conclusion, bibliography)

Assignment #13:Due Date is Friday 1/4

                        Complete your presentation poster.

Assignment #14:Due Date is Friday 1/4

                        Present your science fair project to the class.
